We took Cindy, Lenny's daughter from Minn. And his grandson Matt from here to the canyon. We rode the tram up to the top and then walked down. Thought going down would be easier. This canyon is awesome with all the saguaros. |
This is some of the scenery we saw coming down. The nice thing about riding up is the driver tells you facts about the area. |
The driver said the hardest part of his job was staying on the narrow bridges. This shows a gal driving a park pick up across the bridge. If someone is walking across the bridge they have to stop and let people across before they cross. She explained to us that some have backed up to let the truck go by and fallen off backwards, |

We laughed at the railing on the bridge. It was rocks standing up. Wouldn't hold much back. Shows Cindy walking the trail with her Viking shirt on. It is amazing how a cactus can start to grow in a rock. How do they get moisture there. |
It remains to be seen how the cold weather affects the saguaro cactus. Just read an article in paper and it said they can live for five years before they die from it. They can survive a few hours of cold but this lasted to long. Alot of them probably will have their arms start to droop. |

Lenny and Cindy walking the trail. He certainly has enjoyed this trip. Was great to see the kids and do things with them. The black bird in the picture is a Phainopepla a very scarce bird. He has a nice crest of feathers on his head. This is apparently a male as female is gray. |
These photos show us riding on a tram. |
The nice thing about walking down is you are so close to all the beauty. You see different characters in each cactus. |

The picture on the right is a cactus that has died. You can see the ribs of it which are hard wood. They were building nice restrooms on the mountainside. |
Of course BAPA found a narrow place to hike across. Matt was always watching out for us. This is a picture of a crested saguaro cactus. The cause of this is unknown but sometimes some damage occurs to the growing tip of the cactus causing a fan like growth on top of the cactus. This occurs only one in 200,000 plants. We were fortunate to have seen two. This on really looks old and worn. |
Lenny hiked up the hill to get this picture of this crested saguaro. When he came down his arm was bleeding. I asked if he fell and he said "no" everything that grows around here has thorns on it. |
Crossing a stream to meet our furious leader who had taken the high road. |

The red roof building are were Julie new home is, less than a mile from this park. The three musketeers. |
These hikes have been so much fun. Its amazing to see how many people are out there hiking. There is a high trail above us here you can see people on it. |
The last two photos are the same, see if you can see the people on the trail, if you can't the last one shows them. |
The streams up here as clear as can be. The water feels cold coming down the mountain but its melted snow. |
