Fort Pickens |
We could walk down the beach or the road to this fort. These pictures are taken from across the Bay from the lighthouse where we climbed 177 spiral stairs. I noticed from here that we could walk the beach all the way around the island. So will have to try. This fort is truly amazing. To see how they were defending this coast. |

Fort Pickens |

This fort is truly amazing. To see how they had this coast defended years ago is amazing. These guns went back and forth on a metal track. Some shot above the wall and then would recede below the wall so the gun could be reloaded and the men would be protected . |

Gun Batteries 234, Cooper & Worth |
These guns are hidden in the hillside. A huge ammunition storage with a canon each end. The tall building is a lookout tower. This is all beach which we have walked. See if you can find the guns |
There were two cannons hid here. One on each side with the ammo hidden in the middle |

Looking and walking around the Fort and it out laying guns Batteries. You can't help but think about some of the Island and the battles of World War II or other Wars. It gives you a feeling of gratitude to the men who served. |
